Aylesbury Foraging Course

About this course

The Chilterns are renowned for their commons and we have been given special permission to run a course on one of them near Aylesbury.  The common includes grassland and woodland, and has lots of interesting features to discover.

Located in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, this course is within easy reach of Aylesbury, Tring, Amersham, High Wycombe,  Watford, Rickmansworth, Chesham, Beaconsfield, Marlow, Maidenhead, Berkhamstead, Hemel Hempstead, Luton, Milton Keynes, Bicester, Brackley, Oxford and North West London.

When we meet up, we will go through laws and safety points of foraging before heading out to discover the wild food in the area.

The course includes:

  • an overview of foraging laws and safety best practice

  • exploration of the venue

  • introduction to a number of edible species

  • instruction on how to tell edible species apart from poisonous lookalikes

  • tips on harvesting

  • information on where to find these species again

  • recipe ideas

  • wild food treats to sample

  • digital information sheet sent after the course

The wild food tasters and preserves participants will get to try can include soups, pestos, herb rubs, vinegars, pickles, jams jellies and syrups. All are 100% plant/fungi-based or have a 100% plant/fungi-based alternative.

Springtime and summer courses are predominantly plant focused, with mushrooms sometimes found depending on seasonal weather. Summer courses also have fruits and flowers to learn about. Autumn courses are mostly mushroom-focused with a small amount of plants available.
